Most of applications for invitation are
submitted to police in Krasnoyarsk, which will issue an invitation. Due to different time of applications
(dependent on when you sent a pass copy) the invitations will be ready at
different times in between the end of May and the end of June. As soon as they
will be ready, they will be mailed to you by FedEx. When you will receive the
invitation, please apply to the Russian consulate in your country for a visa.
All invitations will be for one month starting August 17 and ending September 15, 2004.
How to reach Krasnoyarsk
You can come to Krasnoyarsk via Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, or Khabarovsk. One of the best ways is from Frankfurt to Moscow, continuing from Moscow to Krasnoyarsk with Krasair (airline company).
Krasnoyarsk is one of the largest industrial, scientific and
cultural centers of southern Siberia, with a population
about one million. Krasnoyarsk is the capital of the most actively operating forest
industry of Siberia. Our workshop
provides a good opportunity for you to see forests of Siberia as well as the Siberian afforestation experiments.
As the meeting will start August 27 at
8.00 we recommend you to arrive August 26 (most flights are arriving in the
morning, some cultural program will be organized for the afternoon) and
departure in the morning of August 30. We will pick you up in the airport
(please inform time and flight number) and bring you to the hotel.
Flights
Some participants will purchase the
flight-tickets by themselves and will get reimbursed (if granted). Flights in Russia (Moscow-Krasnoyarsk-Moscow) will be purchased by Oleg
Menyailo (if arranged) because it is less expansive to purchase Russian flights
in Russia. The tickets will be mailed together with invitations
(in the same envelope).
Airport switching in Moscow and Hotel
Some international flights are arriving
to (and departing from) Moscow at the
international airport Sheremet’evo 2.
All flights from Moscow to Krasnoyarsk and from Krasnoyarsk to Moscow are in
airport Domodedovo. These two
airports are located at different sides of Moscow but many regular buses, minivans (or taxi) allow
reaching one airport from another within 1-1,5 hours.
We will also ask our participant from Moscow (Dr. Mikhail Makarov) to meet you in Sheremet’evo 2 and to help to take a
bus to Domodedovo (if possible).
If you decided to spend a night in Moscow, the hotel AIRHOTEL is recommended, which is near the
airport Domodedovo: http://www.domodedovo.ru/en/main/about/airhotel/
Hotel in Krasnoyarsk
For all participants (who are not from Krasnoyarsk), single rooms in a Hotel “Oktyabrskaya are reserved
and paid. We will have breakfasts and lunches in the same hotel and dinners -
in other restaurants of Krasnoyarsk.
Money and credit cards
Russian currency is rouble. The exchange
rate is stable for the last 3-4 years. One US $ is approximately 29 roubles, and one Euro is ca. 35
roubles. Most credit cards are accepted everywhere in Moscow but not so often in Krasnoyarsk, therefore some cash (ca. 200 USD) is recommended. If you are bringing
to Russia more than 10,000 USD (or equivalent) you have to
declare them by the custom.
Advises
- Bring hard copies of your recent papers to
distribute among participants.
- Remember that many research foundations now
promote projects that include international activities. This is a good
chance to meet potential collaborators.
- Do not forget a camera. There are some places in Siberia to make good pictures.
If you arrive earlier
Some people arrive earlier,
they will be picked up at the airport and transferred to the hotel. Please make
sure that Oleg Menyailo is aware when
you are arriving! If you will not be met, take a taxi to the hotel
Oktyabrskaya.
