In the photo: A young spruce tree in a mixed regrowth, fully defoliated by gypsy moth caterpillars. The Asian gypsy moth populations can successfully develop on some conifers. During outbreak the larvae defoliate not only deciduous tree species (birch, larch, aspen etc.) but also the ever green coniferous ones - spruce, Siberian pine and pine.
