A map was developed that indicated regions in Near-Yenisei Siberia where Siberian moth outbreaks are most likely to occur.
A map of optimal habitats for the Siberian moth in the Bolshaia Murta leskhoz was developed.
60 pheromone traps were deployed in 3 classes of habitat quality for the Siberian moth in Bolshaia Murta leskhoz. Traps will be collected in July, and results will be analyzed by the end of August 2001.
A network of 500 pheromone traps for the Siberian moth and gypsy moth was set in Krasnoyarski krai and Khakassia in the area of 150 x 300 km. Results of moth capture will be analyzed by August 2001.
Agreement documents were signed with a number of Russian Cooperators. The All-Russian Institute for Chemical Plant Protection started production of the gypsy moth pheromone. The All-Russian Center for Forest Protection in Moscow transferred gypsy moth pheromone to the FOREST project and obtained a permisiion to use this pheromone in Rusian Federation for 2 years.
30 specialists in Forest Protection were trained in using pheromone traps for pest monitoring.
A small private company in Krasnoyarsk started production of pheromone trap bodies. In 2001, 1000 traps were produced and evaluated during the field season.
A web page was developed for Component 2.
A Work Group for Component 2 was created, and its first meeting was held in April 2001 in Krasnoyarsk.
The project has increased its spatial extent in the first year by including new areas: Khakassia, Tuva, and Irkutskaia oblast. This was planned initially for the 3rd year of the project, but our partners were interested to join the work earlier.
